The complex system of watercourses, stillwaters, bogs and other wetlands of the Dolomites and East Tyrol is a wealth for the community living in the area: they are biotopes of great landscape value, providing important ecosystem services and hosting typical or rare animal and plant species. The project aims to lay the foundations for a sense of responsibility in society and the public and for integrated management of these wetlands at the local level.
The complex system of watercourses, stillwaters, bogs and other wetlands of the Dolomites and East Tyrol is a wealth for the community living in the area: they are biotopes of great landscape value, providing important ecosystem services and hosting typical or rare animal and plant species.
In recent decades, many of these wetlands have been altered or destroyed, and those that remain are threatened by disaster events and climate change. Moreover, their importance is hardly perceived by the public and the authorities.
The project aims to lay the foundations for a sense of responsibility in society and the public and for integrated management of these wetlands at the local level: on the one hand, by learning about the ecological status of these small, valuable areas, monitoring their development over time, implementing initial restoration measures and developing longer-term plans for renaturation and monitoring; on the other hand, by enhancing the value of these areas from a cultural and tourism perspective, facilitating their accessibility, educating visitors and promoting responsible tourism.
The partners intend to jointly develop environmental education activities, involving guests in biotope protection. Furthermore, they commit to organise periodic meetings to ensure the exchange of knowledge and experience and to embed the interventions in an integrated transboundary perspective.
Das komplexe System von Wasserläufen, Stillgewässern, Mooren und anderen Feuchtgebieten der Dolomiten und Osttirols ist ein Reichtum für die im Gebiet lebende Gemeinschaft: Es handelt sich um Biotope von großem landschaftlichen Wert, die wichtige Ökosystemleistungen erbringen und typische oder seltene Tier- und Pflanzenarten beherbergen.
In den letzten Jahrzehnten wurden viele dieser Feuchtgebiete verändert oder zerstört, die verbleibenden sind durch Katastrophenereignisse und den Klimawandel bedroht. Zudem wird ihre Bedeutung von der Öffentlichkeit und der Verwaltung kaum wahrgenommen.
Das Projekt will Grundlagen für ein Verantwortungsbewusstsein in der Gesellschaft und Öffentlichkeit und für ein integriertes Management dieser Feuchtgebiete auf lokaler Ebene schaffen: einerseits durch die Kenntnis des ökologischen Zustandes dieser kleinen, wertvollen Gebiete, die Überwachung der Entwicklung im Laufe der Zeit, die Durchführung erster Wiederherstellungsmaßnahmen und die Entwicklung von längerfristigen Plänen für die Renaturierung und das Monitoring; andererseits durch die Aufwertung dieser Gebiete aus kultureller und touristischer Sicht, durch die Erleichterung ihrer Zugänglichkeit, die Aufklärung der Besucher und die Förderung eines verantwortungsvollen Tourismus.
Die Partner beabsichtigen gemeinsam Umweltbildungsaktivitäten zu entwickeln und dabei auch Gäste in den Biotopschutz mit einzubeziehen. Darüber hinaus verpflichten sie sich, periodische Treffen zu organisieren, um den Wissens- und Erfahrungsaustausch zu gewährleisten und die Interventionen in eine integrierte grenzüberschreitende Perspektive einzubetten.
