Implementation of advanced technologies for the increase of safety in the architecture of modern residential buildings

The project researches the possibilities offered by modern advanced technologies for the increase of safety of building structures and their influence on the building architecture. It is oriented toward the field of safety of residential buildings and as a consequence, toward the increase of safety of people and property in the building structures.

The project is limited to earthquake and fire-resistant safety of structures and their influence on the architectural design of modern residential buildings. As advanced technologies, we consider all passive and active technological systems, that are built in the structure in order to increase its safety. Considering earthquake safety these are various devices for base isolation systems, such as various bearings, dampers and systems for displacement reduction. Considering fire-resistant safety, these are mostly advanced computer systems for surveillance, alarming, evacuation and fire extinguishing. Only technologically well-versed architect will be capable to include all technological demands in the building architecture, as soon as in the phase of basic conceptual design, what only assures their maximal efficiency. Only the structures designed in this way might combine the architectural recognition, beauty and excellence with sufficient safety against eventual misfortunes during their projected lifetime. As one of the important practical results of the project we exalt also the preparations of guidelines for the design of “Modern Safe European Competitive Residential Building”. The usage of earthquake isolation in this manner is completely new in our region and it might, for example, thoroughly change the directions for after earthquake renovation of Posočje region. The conclusions will however be usable also in other earthquake-prone areas. 
We have foreseen divided research of different isolation systems for individual and multi-residential buildings. 
In the framework of the project, it was researched also the new ideas for simple economic base isolation of individual houses that are based on a special base isolation system formed of sand foundation basin. Special attention was also on the possibilities to increase the safety of heritage valuable buildings and the increase of their earthquake and fire-resistant safety.

Projekt raziskuje možnosti za uvajanje naprednih tehnologij za povečanje varnosti konstrukcij in njihove vplive na arhitekturo stavb. Pri tem se usmerja na področje varnosti konstrukcij stanovanjskih stavb in s tem posledično na povečanje varnosti ljudi in premoženja v stavbah. Projekt se omejuje na potresno in požarno varnost konstrukcij in njihov vpliv na arhitekturo sodobnih stanovanjskih stavb. Kot napredne tehnologije se smatrajo vsi pasivni in aktivni tehnološki sistemi, ki so vgrajeni v stavbo z namenom povečanja njene varnosti. V smislu povečanja varnosti pri nastopu potresa so to predvsem naprave povezane s potresno izolacijo konstrukcij, kot so to različna ležišča in dušilci ter blažilci pomikov, v smislu povečanja požarne varnosti pa so to predvsem napredni računalniško podprti sistemi za nadzor, obveščanje, evakuacijo in gašenje. Le tehnološko ustrezno podkovan projektant bo sposoben že v fazi zasnove predvideti vse tehnološke zahteve stavbe in arhitekturo stavbe oblikovati tako, da bo že v konceptu omogočala njihovo vgraditev in njihov najučinkovitejši izkoristek. Tako projektirane stavbe bodo poleg svoje morebitne arhitekturne prepoznavnosti, lepote in odličnosti tudi dovolj varne napram morebitnim nesrečam, ki jih lahko doletijo v njihovi življenjski dobi. Kot eden od pomembnih aplikativnih rezultatov projekta je tudi izdelava smernic in napotkov za projektiranje »Varne evropsko konkurenčne stanovanjske stavbe«. Uporaba potresne izolacije pri tem za naše področje predstavlja novost, ki bi lahko na primer močno spremenila smernice za popotresno obnovo Posočja, uporabna pa bo tudi na širšem evropskem prostoru. 
Obravnavani so bili različni izolacijski sistemi za individualne in za večstanovanjske hiše, ter analiza vplivov njihove uporabe na arhitekturo. 
V okviru projekta so bili raziskani novi načini za enostavno potresno izolacijo individualnih hiš, pri kateri izolacijo predstavlja poseben sistem temeljenja na pesku. Posebna pozornost je bil namenjena tudi možnostim za povečanje varnosti stavb kulturne dediščine, tako v smislu povečanja potresne kot tudi požarne varnosti.
