Switzerland is one of the first countries to have created detailed 3D building models of the entire country. This digital 3D model of Switzerland consists of approximately 70 million 3D objects. In addition to the entire building stock of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, bridges, cable cars, forests, individual trees and geographical names are also represented in 3D.
Buildings and settlements shape the landscape of Switzerland. Therefore, these objects are very important for spatial visualisations. swisstopo has digitised all buildings in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein and used them to create 3D building models with realistic roof shapes and roof overhangs. In summer 2018, the last areas were completed. This means that a data set with 3D building models is now available for all parts of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
For the 3D model in the federal government's map viewer, swisstopo prepared data from the following products:
- swissBUILDINGS3D 2.0 - The 3D Building Models of Switzerland
- swissTLM3D - The Topographic Landscape Model of Switzerland
- swissALTI3D - The Digital Terrain Model of Switzerland
- swissNAMES3D - The geographical names of Switzerland
The 3D views from the federal map viewer can also be integrated into your own websites or web portals. Either directly with the iFrame function of map.geo.admin.ch or by obtaining the data from the corresponding geoservices of swisstopo as 3D tiles and integrating them into a web portal. In addition, an interface allows the import of own two- and three-dimensional data in the formats KML and JSON. A selected view of the 3D model can be copied as a link (URL) and shared with others.

Die 3D-Ansichten aus dem Kartenviewer des Bundes lassen sich auch in eigene Webseiten oder Webportale einbinden. Entweder direkt mit der iFrame-Funktion von map.geo.admin.ch oder indem die Daten über die entsprechenden Geodienste von swisstopo als 3D-Tiles bezogen und in ein Webportal integriert werden. Zusätzlich ermöglicht eine Schnittstelle das Importieren von eigenen zwei- und dreidimensionalen Daten in den Formaten KML und JSON. Eine ausgewählte Ansicht des 3D-Modells kann als Link (URL) kopiert und mit anderen Personen geteilt werden.
