Regeneration potential of a degraded alpine mountain bog: complex regeneration patterns after grazing cessation and partial rewetting
The paper analyses the development of an alpine bog that was restored by cessation of grazing and partial rewetting. The results show, that the cessation of grazing alone is not sufficient to maintain bog vegetation. However, in combination with rewetting, the sites develop in the desired direction although even 11 after cessation of grazing and 15 years after rewetting, the state of the site was still far away from an undisturbed alpine bog.
The paper analyses the development of an alpine bog that was restored by cessation of grazing and partial rewetting, 15 and 11 years ago, respectively. In one part, grazing was stopped, in another part grazing was stopped and additionally, it was rewetted. Apart from the vegetation, also environmental factors such as water ability and soil aeration, were investigated. The results show, that the cessation of grazing alone is not sufficient to maintain bog vegetation. However, in combination with rewetting, the sites develop in the desired direction although even 11 and 15 years after the restoration measures, the state of the site was still far away from an undisturbed alpine bog.
Der Artikel untersucht die Entwicklung eines Hochmoores, das durch das Einstellen der Beweidung (vor 15 Jahren) und teilweise durch Wiedervernässung restauriert wurde. In einem Teil wurde nur die Beweidung eingestellt, in einem anderen Teil wurde das Moor zusätzlich wiedervernässt. Neben der Vegetation wurden auch Umweltfaktoren wie die Wasserführung und die Bodenbelüftung analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass ein Beweidungsstopp allein nicht ausreicht, um Hochmoorvegetation zu erhalten. In Kombination mit der Wiedervernässung entwickeln sich die Flächen jedoch in die gewünschte Richtung, obwohl der Zustand der Flächen auch 11 und 15 Jahre nach den Renaturierungsmaßnahmen noch weit von einem ungestörten, alpinen Hochmoor entfernt war.
